Swing into Spring #SS15Clerys

Happy Friday everyone!

We're swinging into the weekend with some gorgeous spring looks from Clerys, where you'll find me from Monday-Friday :) My excitement about the show may be a little biased but I'm sure you'll agree that all of the looks are stunning! I especially loved this full skirt halter dress above and the utility inspired shirt and trousers combination below, both from Warehouse.

Other trends showcased included 'in black & white', introducing juicy pops of colour through the accessories. I've got my eye on the Obi belt above from Sisley! Definitely a wardrobe staple with its instant outfit transforming abilities!

The 'luxe layering' and 'on safari' stories confirmed that neutrals are here to stay, in all sorts of textures. I love the mix below - especially the sumptuous Les 100 Ciels cashmere with a floaty chiffon dress from Benetton. Divine!

I wore a dress by Irish label Fee G for the occasion, which I fell in love with. It's perfect for any summer occasion from communions and confirmations to race days and weddings.

It has been a whirlwind week - busy, exhausting, exciting and incredibly rewarding!
I enjoyed every minute of putting the event together from creating the showspace to working with the amazing production team. And now... it's on to the next project :)

Have a fabulous weekend!

Blue Hues

Just like fashion certain colours seem to come and go on the interiors front but one that always remains popular and a personal favourite of ours here is blue! The reason is possibly due to the fact it suits all types of rooms and there are such a vast range of shades available now, you are sure to find something to suit your own personal requirements....

These are some of the lovely rooms which show how different blue tones work so well in a wide variety of spaces

This statement chair and the positioning of a single cushion on the couch enhances the white background so well...

Love this pale blue wall with the grey tile and blue accessories....so refreshing in a shower room...

This idea of framing a favourite fabric would work so well in any room!

This bedroom is making me want to run and buy some paint immediately....how calming and restful is that pale blue wall!

Here are some lovely accessories to enhance those blue touches...

Navy and white serving bowls from Meadows and Byrne

Padded cushions from M&S great for adding an extra touch to upcycled chairs

New spring designs from Dunnes Home....this blue/grey hue is so classy

Summer garden clock from Carraig Donn

Hope you enjoyed this little bit of blue decor inspiration. Laura will be back tomorrow to end the week with some gorgeous spring fashion:)

Healthy Gluten Free Seed Loaf

While I was searching online for recipes to make a seeded type flourless gluten free bread this one appeared and the title definitely caught my eye! The blogger Sarah from My New Roots labelled it The Life- Changing Loaf, so intrigued by this discovery I read on....loved the mix of ingredients and decided to try it out for myself:)

Now I was under no illusions as to what mine would turn out like as I never really made bread in tins - scones or round fruit bread would have been my usual go to recipes! Anyhow I bought all the ingredients and gave it a bash!
Well I nearly did a happy dance around the kitchen when it emerged from the tin looking similar to the photo online! The husband didn't share my enthusiasm and decided to stick with his own toasted white bread that morning! Well I love it and my son who is also wheat/gluten intolerant loved it so I thought I'd share the recipe for others to try!

Ingredients:

1 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup flax seeds
1/2 cup almond/hazelnuts optional...I had to leave out as son is intolerant to nuts.
11/2 cups rolled oats (gluten free)
2 tbsps chia seeds
4 tbsps psyllium seed husks or 3 if using the powder variety(this is the necessary ingredient to bind the mix together instead of flour and egg) I got it in a local health shop
1 tsp maple syrup
3tbsps coconut oil
11/2 cups water

Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl! Whisk the maple syrup, oil and water in a jug and add to dry ingredients! I put mine into a 2lb greased loaf tin or you can use a silicone one which would probably be even better!
Smooth the back of dough and let it sit for 2 hrs to settle -then place in a heated 175oC oven and bake for 20 mins! Remove and turn out of the tin, place upside down on oven rack and bake again for another 20-30 mins. It is cooked when it sounds hollow on tapping the loaf.

Remove and leave to cool before slicing!

I love mine toasted or spread with pate and tomatoes for lunch! Egg and avocado is another great topping and my son brings it to work to eat with his soup! I am sure everyone has their own favourite toppings to try!

Hope you all enjoyed this recipe and if anyone gives it a go, I would love to know and get some feedback!

Take Care:)

Girls trip to London

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start.
I'm just settling back to reality after a lovely weekend trip to London with the girls!

We pulled out all the stops to celebrate our fabulous friend Claire's 30th birthday, so I thought I'd share a little recap today.

We arrived bright and early on Friday morning and our first stop was Le Chalet at Selfridges for a spot of brunch. I had been there before Christmas and loved it, so I was delighted to get another visit in with the girls before it closes in March. Perched on the rooftop of Selfridges, the atmosphere was lovely - so warm and cosy and we enjoyed catching up over a delicious meal and a bottle of wine!

After a spot of shopping and an all important visit to MAC in search of 'Brave' (which we got - yay
!), we headed back to the hotel to get glammed up for dinner that night. We enjoyed some gorgeous tapas dishes and cocktails at the gorgeous Ham Yard Hotel in Soho. The decor here was just beautiful and the fairy lights outside made the night all the more magical.

Saturday morning started with a delicious brunch in Covent Garden followed by a stroll around the shops. It's such a beautiful area to browse around. The Kurt Geiger store in particular had the wow factor!

As London Fashion Week was on over the weekend, we couldn't not visit Somerset House! The atmosphere was buzzing and I could have spent the whole afternoon people watching and admiring the street style. I was giddy with excitement to get my photo under the London Fashion Week sign.

After more shopping, it was back to the hotel again to get ready for another night on the tiles. We had dinner and cocktails at Madison, St. Pauls. We absolutely loved this place! The views across the city were incredible and it had a really laid back, relaxed vibe. Not to mention the divine cocktails and desserts!

To round off our trip, we went along to Pret-a-Portea at the Berkeley on Sunday. I had found this via Instagram a few months ago and knew it would be the perfect treat for our fashionista birthday girl! I won't ramble on any more - the pictures speak for themselves! It was just gorgeous and I'd highly recommend it.

I managed to squeeze in a few purchases over the weekend too but I'll save that for another post :)

Hope you enjoyed my little round up. You just can't beat a weekend away with the girls!

New Spring Collection From Irish Designer

Irish designer Niamh O' Neill has just launched her fabulous new SS15 collection and I absolutely adore her elegant  styling! Her creations are so versatile and just perfect for the new season- with  Communions, Confirmations, race days and spring/summer weddings on the agenda, everyone is on the lookout for the perfect dress or coat and you certainly don't want to end up clashing with another in the style stakes on such a special day!

Here is a taster of some of the new SS15 pieces...

As you can see the new collection has a fun sixties vibe going on and what I love is the fact that any of these designs would suit a wide age group, attending totally different events:) Just add your own favourite accessories, hat, shoes, jewellery etc to make a very personal style statement.

For a full list of stockists, and more information on the designer and styles just log on here! Personally I'm a little in love with that elegant blush coat above!!

Hope you all have a good week ahead:)
Spring is a bit slow in coming I think, with the cold and sleet back today!

NYFW Roundup

Oh how I love fashion month! We kicked off with New York last week and I've been glued to it online and via social media. After Christmas, this is without a doubt my most favourite time of the year. There's nothing I love more than settling down every evening to binge on all of the beautiful creations that sashayed down the runway that day. The buzz, the energy, the street style - it's all magical and I can only hope to experience it live myself some day!

While we may not able to rush out and scoop up these exact runway pieces, I'm always fascinated to follow the trends as they emerge across New York, London, Milan and Paris. The inspiration alone is enough to get the creative juices flowing!

So as New York draws to a close and London begins, I thought I'd round up some of my favourites below!

Donna Karan: Always a stunning production and I loved the backdrop. Strong outerwear, incredible tailoring and beautiful evening wear!
Philip Lim: A master in layering with an edgy utilitarian twist. I just love these looks!
Badgley Mischka: Stunning evening wear, so fluid and beautiful in motion. This red waterfall coat is gorgeous too. I'm obsessed with this style lately and looking for the perfect camel version!
Marchesa: Who can resist a spot of Gatsby glamour? The attention to detail here is just incredible!

In exciting news, I'm off to London for the weekend with my girls to celebrate one very fabulous friend's 30th Birthday! We have a packed agenda with some gorgeous bars and restaurants to visit and plenty of time set aside for shopping too! I'm really looking forward to soaking up the atmosphere of London Fashion Week, and who knows, I might even spot Olivia Palermo! Here's hoping :)

I'll be updating on Instagram (@lustrous.ie and @stylebylaura) so feel free to follow along!

Happy Friday everyone!

Spotlight On Penneys Homeware

As soon as the new season hits I am always on the lookout for some new, inexpensive bits to update the house. I have to say the current stock arriving in Penneys/Primark at the moment is fabulous!
It has always been an affordable shopping option, but the new spring homewares would give some of their high end counterparts a real run for their money!

These are some of my favourite pieces currently instore and also a few bits
  I bought myself....

Blue is having a bit of a moment on the home decor front and these cushions and throws are just perfect for the new season....

If you are having an event at home this spring /summer, these inexpensive lanterns and paper lights are amazing! I am thinking they would be perfect for table settings for upcoming communions, confirmation family parties etc....

I couldn't resist these blue and white cushions for my outdoor summer chairs..... only €6 each, they remind me of sunny holidays and Mediterranean tiles!

I also added this cheery word frame for €3 to my collection.

Aren't they lovely? I know we would all like to support the smaller crafting businesses, but at times it can be hard to juggle the home budget so cheaper options like these are a godsend and you feel you are getting a little treat as well as a good bargain!

The other Olivia

There's a new Olivia in my life. (Sorry Ms. Palermo, I still love you too!)
Today I'm talking watches by none other than the fabulous Olivia Burton. For those who don't know, Olivia Burton is a London based label, fast gaining a stellar reputation for their whimsical range of wrist candy inspired by vintage and catwalk designs.

Available in a variety of shapes and colours, there's really something for everyone within the ever expanding collection. As you can see above and below, my personal favourite is the Big Dial category - I love the simple, clean face and of course, the colourful array of wrist straps!

I probably have enough now with my three....but it can't hurt to take a little peek at some of the newest arrivals below?!

Hope you enjoyed this post and got a little inspiration!
I've already got two of my very best friends hooked on them and every second girl in my office has one! If there's a special occasion coming up, they make a lovely gift for friends, sisters or mums. And it's always nice to treat yourself to something special too :)

Olivia Burton is available at Clerys, Dublin or you can shop online here at Olivia Burton

Banana Pancakes

I have to admit when I first saw this flourless pancake recipe doing the rounds on Pinterest I totally ignored it, only because I thought no way could they be like normal pancakes and they would probably taste awful!

Since giving up regular wheat flour I have been tempted to try many
different recipes, so in honour of pancake day today I decided to road test this simple easy one!

How wrong I was, the pancakes turned out fab and tasted divine so these will be my go to lunch snack when I crave a sweet treat from now on!

Ingredients (makes 3-4 small pancakes)

1 large banana
2 eggs
coconut oil for frying

Mash the banana well in a bowl.Whisk the two eggs in a jug, add to the mashed banana and blend with a mixer until you have a batter like consistency.
Melt a small dollop of coconut oil on the pan and add a tablespoon at a time of the banana batter mixture to it!

Fry for a minute then flip over when bubbles start to appear on top, cook the other side for another minute. This is where I noticed a slight difference, it can be a little fiddly to flip them as the batter is a tad soggier than flour pancakes! There was definitely no tossing up in the air done!!

I sieved some icing sugar over mine when they were cooked and served with a drizzle of maple syrup and blueberries on the side! You could add any fresh fruit you fancy or sliced banana with a dollop of cream would be delicious also:)

Happy Pancake Tuesday to everyone:)

Oasis SS15

We're huge fans of Oasis here at Lustrous, so it was a lovely treat to step into their spring garden last week for a glimpse of what's to come for the season ahead.

Before we delve into the beautiful clothes, we must mention the stunning set up. Greeted by little rabbits on the stairs and sipping on tea from the prettiest china cups, it felt like we had been transported to fantasy wonderland on a dreary Wednesday morning!

Now about the clothes! The room was awash with colour with stunning florals, soft suedes, variegated stripes and boho prints all in the mix.

SS15 is all about separates with an abundance of cute co-ords in beautiful colours and prints. Skirts are big news this season, from pretty midis to wrap pencil styles revealing thigh high splits.

Monchrome is still key but Khaki takes the lead as the new neutral. And there's plenty of pretty pastels to satisfy those who crave soft summer hues!

In terms of accessories, Oasis bring their A game with these reversible coloured tote bags. Just perfect for summer holidays!

There is so much to love about this collection and we can't wait to see some of these pieces land in stores soon! Enjoy and let us know your favourites too :)
