Holiday Staples...

We can hardly believe that tomorrow is the 1st of May - hello summer!
With holidays on the horizon, my long weekend will mostly be spent outfit planning for my trip to Marbella next week, which I'm so excited about!

There's no shortage of inspiration in the shops and online (in fact there's too much - I want it all!) so this evening I've compiled a few favourites that have caught my eye.

Zara Dress | Warehouse Kimono | Oasis Jumpsuit & Shorts | H&M Hat | Parfois Tote | Moda in Pelle Sandals

Holiday dressing for me is all about the staples and easy pieces that are versatile enough to be dressed up or down.

I'm obsessed with the Warehouse kimono which would be fab over a bikini and equally gorgeous with a pair of denim shorts. I always pack playsuits and jumpsuits as they are so comfortable and easy to wear in the heat. This floral number from Oasis is stunning and I love the bright colours! The Zara dress is another great day to night piece and looks so luxe. And no capsule collection is complete without a trusty pair of sandals, a huge tote bag and a fabulous oversized hat!

Hope you liked my picks :)

A Peek at Littlewoods Ireland....

As we mentioned here before Laura and I had a fabulous evening in Dublin recently at the Littlewoods Ireland summer event! It was held in the penthouse suite of The Marker Hotel in the heart of Temple Bar Dublin. We were in our element perusing the rails and stands overflowing with summer attire ! We really wanted to just pack a suitcase full of stuff and head straight to the airport for sunnier climes!

Now I have to admit I never realised what a fantastic range of clothing and labels Littlewoods sell! From well known brands like Oasis and French connection-they also carry some great own labels such as South and Definitions!

They also have some celebrity designers on board such as Myleene Klass and Coleen Rooney who have designed  lovely pieces for them.

We were allowed to choose three things each from any rail or stand to take home on the night!I have to say I was spoilt for choice but these are the three which caught my eye:)

I love a little bit of floral action for summer so this multi print kimono from the South range will be a great standby piece for summer evenings or lazy beach days!

I loved this two piece jumpsuit by Fashion Union and thought it would be a great piece to have for a spring/summer event. I like the simple style with just the right amount of detail on the front to give it a little bit of extra oomph!

Lastly I am trying to add some good basics to my spring/summer capsule wardrobe so this grey cotton top in the Coleen range appealed to me as the quality is fantastic, the material way heavier than a normal tee and I liked the added bit of bling on the neckline! It can be dressed up for an evening out or look just as good for casual downtime.

Here are a few shots of how I can wear it this spring...

The Bedroom Project...

A couple of weekends ago I decided it was high time for a bedroom spring clean. I emptied literally everything out of my wardrobes and drawers (regretting it all mid way through the process, as you do!) and was ruthless with my purging! Anything that I hadn't worn in over a year or just didn't feel comfortable in was put aside for charity.

My next mission was to target storage, which is half the problem when those 'I have nothing to wear' moments strike! Keeping your belongings streamlined and tidy allows for a much calmer space and makes it much easier to put outfits together and actually see what you have.

I've turned to Pinterest for some bedroom inspiration which I thought I'd share today.

I love this storage cube from IKEA, which fits neatly beside the bed yet holds so much. It's a great alternative to a chest of drawers and a nice way of displaying your favourite jewellery, perfumes or books.

A dressing table/vanity also makes the perfect bedside companion. The drawer on this one is ideal for make-up storage. My collection currently resides between several make-up bags and little baskets - not at all practical, especially when I'm in a rush and can't find that one lipstick shade I need!

This clothing rack from IKEA is a storage saviour too. I have one of these and it's great for pulling looks together or simply showcasing some of your prettiest pieces if you are short on closet space. Why keep them hidden away?!

Storage baskets are my new best friend! Perfect for storing out of season items such a bulky knitwear and outerwear during the summer. Swap over as the seasons change to keep your wardrobe streamlined and clutter free. Penneys, Heatons and IKEA are all great for affordable options in a range of sizes.

So it looks like an IKEA trip is most definitely on the agenda very soon. I'll share photos of my progress once it's all complete!

In the meantime, I'll leave you with these wise words from the ever fabulous Carrie Bradshaw :)

A Simple Shirt

We had very mixed bag of weather this weekend and the April showers were never too far away! It was still nice in the sunshine that emerged  in between, although it is supposed to get much colder this week;(  I decided to wear my new light blue shirt yesterday while I could in case I'm dragging out the woollies again soon .

I love a casual shirt and had been looking for a light blue summery one- I spied this in Zara the other day and loved the simple collarless style. I hate shirts or blouses that are too fussy, so the light material and shape of this one appealed to me. It will be great for summer and could also be worn over a cotton dress or with a skirt for holiday time.

Here it is styled on the Zara website with a suede skirt!

Shirt Zara

I think basic shirts are a great wardrobe staple and something you can put on quickly in the morning with minimum effort required to look somewhat pulled together.
Here is another lovely one from H&M

As the rain was never too far away, my short Zara mac was a great standby. I have this style a few years and love it- I have seen lots of similar ones in the shops and have added a link to a very similar style and colour below if anyone is in need of a light spring mac:).

Shiny moments

Hello everyone and Happy Friday. It's been another beautiful sunny week and we have enjoyed spending time outdoors whenever we got a chance!

Little things on a warm sunny day can make all the difference....we loved how this little fella had the lake to himself the other morning!

I have discovered buckwheat flour which contains no gluten or wheat is fab for making pancakes and they are a good alternative to cake when a sweet treat is needed!
Mix 1 cup of the flour with 1 cup coconut milk-add in 1 egg and your batter is ready! Perfect for a weekend brunch:) Anne

I've been admiring the lace up trend and couldn't resist these when I spotted them in Parfois during the week. I love the coral colour, especially for summer. Laura

A few Friday treats are always a shiny moment- flowers, a pretty candle and new decor magazine are keeping me happy today:) Anne

We hope you all have a lovely weekend:)

Cool Culottes

Today, we're looking at culottes - which can be intimidating at first glance! It's the trouser trend that everyone is talking about this season, with somewhat divided opinions.  Being a skinny jean and trouser obsessive, I wrote them off at first as not for me. But having seen some fabulous style inspiration recently, I must admit they are growing on me!

Dressing for work during summer can be tricky and for me, this is where culottes make perfect sense - they appear light and breezy but polished and chic all at the same time.

When it comes to wearing culottes, tailoring is key and it's important to balance out your top half with something more fitted or tucked in. A smart blazer is perfect for work or the stunning longline waistcoat below from Warehouse makes for a gorgeously sleek look!

Culottes can also be worn casual but I think I'll dip my toe in the water with a trusty pair of heels first! Here are some picks from the shops....I'll report back if I purchase any ;)

My favourite healthy eats...

Hello, hope everyone is enjoying this sunny week! I love it as I always feel way more energetic and I just thought with summer coming along I would post some of my favourite daily eats- I have had a few enquiries as to how I manage to keep my weight in check so I will share what works for me!

As older readers may know from my old blog I went on a wheat and gluten free diet due to health problems at the end of last year! I lost a good amount of weight which really didn't suit me at all and I have managed to gain some back now which I think is better for me! I did break out a bit too much over Easter with dairy and sugar though (chocfest!!) so I could feel that sluggish feeling return and I think it just affects your overall confidence on a daily basis!

Here are a few of the good things that work and fill me up without having to resort to too much rubbish fillers during the day.
I nearly always start the day with a two egg omelette as I love how you can add as much salad as you want and it keeps me going for most of the morning! My mother did this all her life and she is 86 with more energy than me most days so I will follow  her example and keep eating the eggs!

If I am having a coffee I do like a sweet treat- I try to have a homemade one on hand as I found most of the wheat and gluten free shop bought options are just not appetising and not always as healthy as stated on the pack if you read the finer print!

My lunch is usually a slice or two of this healthy bread recipe I posted here and I top it with whatever I have available!

Lately avocados are my thing mashed up with a tomato and a sprinkle of chilli.powder.

I always look forward to dinner now and love coming up with different ways of cooking veggies! My son and I go mad for kale and broccoli so this roasted version with added asparagus is on repeat here. It goes really well with fish or chicken too which is so good for you!

If I snack I try to eat fruit and always keep a small bowl of mixed berries handy in the fridge:)

I hope you enjoyed this post- thanks to Lorena for asking about an asparagus tart recipe I had on my old blog:) I haven't made or come across gluten free pastry for the base but I will be experimenting over the next few weeks and will try a  new version of the tart then:) If anyone has a good gluten free easy pastry recipe please let me know!

Enjoy the rest of the week:)

Blush & Sparkles

Those who know me will know that I love a touch of blush and sparkle :)

I've been admiring these waterfall gilets which seem to be all over Instagram lately so I was delighted to spot this one at StylistPick in Clerys recently. It's a nice piece for transitioning into spring and so easy to throw on over a simple shirt and jeans. It was a bargain too at only €28!

Onto jewellery and I can never resist a a bit of glitz. I was thrilled to receive this gorgeous necklace as a gift from Newbridge Silverware a few weeks ago. It's part of their eShe collection, which first debuted last year offering edgier and more statement pieces targeted at a younger customer.

There's a lovely story behind the eShe concept, which was first imagined by Maedbh Doyle, the 16 year old daughter of Newbridge Silverware M.D William Doyle, who believed that the family business was failing to meet the fashionable demands of the younger consumer. And now it sits proudly alongside the other Newbridge Silverware collections!

I love the detail on this necklace and it makes such a statement against a plain white top. I'll wear it loads over the summer months :)

Casual Weekend Style

The weather was gorgeous and sunny this weekend but still a little on the cool side so a jacket was definitely needed. I spotted this lightweight khaki parka style one in Penneys last week and thought it would be great as a throw on for cooler spring days!

I am also loving my new Clarks shoes, as the neutral colour goes with a lot of pieces I own already and they are so comfortable. I may even be tempted to buy a white pair of sneakers if I find something suitable and as comfortable as these!
I got these white jeans in the petite section of Next and they are a good length for casual shoes as I sometimes find with regular fits, the leg is way to long for me and hate having to get them altered!.

I have a huge selection of stripe tops which always come in handy for casual days. This one is an older style from Zara but there are loads available in every store at the moment.

Someone just would not move!!

Shiny Moments

It has been another lovely week here and we have enjoyed some lovely sunny evenings and sunsets to match....hope this good weather continues to improve:)

We also enjoyed a fabulous meal at The Woollen Mills restaurant on Ormond Quay Dublin. The cornflake chicken dish is to die for! We would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant if anyone is in Dublin and looking for good food in a lovely friendly atmosphere!

The highlight of our week was the Littlewoods Ireland #hellosummer event yesterday in the fabulous Morgan Hotel Temple Bar! A lovely fun evening of fashion and style!
We also got a gift of three pieces each to style so we look forward to featuring these in some future blog posts!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend:)

Scents Of Spring/Summer....

Never underestimate the power of a good perfume and just like switching over from heavy winter clothes, we think it is almost essential to indulge in a little treat with some new spring/summer scent! Who doesn't love a nice fresh floral fragrance to spray and start the day, or for putting that last minute spring in your step when heading out the door to an event.

Now we know everyone has firm favourites in the perfume department and here are a few of ours for this spring/summer.

I love this recent birthday gift of Si by Giorgio is so light and the floral undertones are perfect for spring/summer!

Laura got this D&G perfume at an event recently and it is divine! Even looking at the box conjures up thoughts of dreamy summer evenings!! Will be available in stores from June.

We both have this one and who can resist a little spritz of Jo Malone on a sunny spring morning!!
Here are a few others you might like to consider as a gift for someone special or your very own little treat:)

Hope you all have a lovely day:) We are off to the Littlewoods Ireland  summer event in Dublin later on this evening which should be lots of fun:)

Homemade Avocado Pesto With a Mediterranean Traybake

When the weather warms up a bit I like switching over from heavier dinners like casseroles and curries to some easy makes that remind me of sunshine and holidays! Roasted veggies and chicken traybake is a favourite here and I love making my own avocado pesto sauce to drizzle over it! It really is so simple to make. This is what I use...

1 ripe avocado (halve and scoop out flesh)
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 tsp black pepper
A good handful of Basil Leaves
1 clove garlic or a dessert spoon of minced garlic in a jar (I find this easier for cooking with)

Whack it all in the food processor- I used our nutribullet which is fab for quick recipes like this!

You can add more seasoning and garlic to your own taste when it is blended! Set aside and cover in a bowl or jar until you need it! I don't use cheese so the avocado gives it that nice creamy concistency instead.

For my tray bake I just chop up whatever veggies I am using into thick chunks. Here I have used aubergine, sweet potato, courgette, red pepper, tomato and red onion.

Using a shallow baking tray, coat all your veggies with some olive oil mixed with a spoonful of pesto until well mixed. Dice your chicken breasts (you can vary the quantity of ingredients to suit) and place on top - roast in 180c oven covered with foil for 30 mins.

Remove the tray from oven, discard foil and roast for a further 10 mins or until the chicken is cooked through.

Drizzle with more pesto and serve with fresh bread or rolls. Mine here is a gluten free ciabatta roll to mop up the lovely juices!

Hope you all enjoyed this recipe. It is one of our favourites here and quick to make:) I hope that sun comes back as forecast this week:)
